Facebook: Business Page vs Personal Page

A common question I am often asked is what is the difference between a business page, fan page, and personal profile on Facebook?

It can be confusing, so in this post, I will clarify what these pages are and how you can get the most from them.

Business Page 

A business page is also called a fan page and is where you describe your services and what your product or service gives to people. This is the place to make posts related to your niche to show your expertise and knowledge in the field in which you work,

Facebook uses different rules for the different types of pages so to get the most widespread coverage it is best to place posts here that you want to share in your own groups or other groups.

Personal Profile 

This is the place to talk about you. Depending on how you want to use Facebook you can choose how much personal information to share.

For example, if you are predominantly using Facebook to grow your business and nurture your avatar then you may choose to only make posts on your personal profile about your achievements and what you are doing that relates to your business and not post anything, or sparingly post images related to your family or personal life such as holiday snaps.

This is a fine balance, there are many successful business owners, myself included, who are private people. We introverts tend to dislike sharing too much detail about our private lives. However, I have learned over the years that it is important to share something so you can be seen as genuine, vulnerable and just like the people you are seeking to attract.

The choice is yours.
